I would just like to report that tonight at my mandolin lesson GMT said, "I am proud of you." Apparently my practicing on the road paid off and now I can play in two directions -- up AND down -- play notes AND chords, and have learned how to play in two new keys.
We had a little role reversal tonight: GMT handled the melody while I played chords. I actually felt like a semi-normal player. I know a whopping four or five chords. I'm getting callouses on my left hand and I really do need a manicure, but I'm getting as superstitious as an athlete and I don't want to change anything right now because it's all going right.
Are you practicing too much if, during a meeting at work, "Wildwood Flower" is on a continuous loop in your brain? And you are playing it with your left hand while driving?
Tonight there is a predicted near-record low temperature. Those are four of my favorite words. I'm sleeping with the windows open! Note to workers sandblasting the hotel parking lot across the street: Fellas, take the night off, why don't you?
