I truly love the area of town where I work, but sometimes I wish I were in downtown Nashville during the day. First off, I would hang out a lot at the Arcade. The friendly folks at Thursday Night Fever made the midday downtown scene even more appealing with this hilarious post. Please note our special mention as vocab winner of the day.
When I worked in downtown Peoria, every once in a while the sternwheeler (which I hear has since decamped for some other river town) would play a little calliope tune. I do miss that. And church bells, which you could hear in my neighborhood.
Yeah, downtown Nashville really seems to be trying harder and harder to become a community, and, as a (during the day) downtown person, I hope it suceeds. There's all kinds of residential development scheduled for 2005, as well as a downtown grocery. Plus, with all the state and office workers here, there's always something interesting going on. Downtown Nashville in 2006 could look very different (once the County Courthouse reopens, the ballpark decision is made, the new symphony house opens).

I need to stop and enjoy Nashville sometime instead of turning left and heading for my dad's hometown of Crossville like I do almost every Memorial Day weekend. We used to stop and stay overnight in Goodlettsville, and now we don't even do that anymore. My wife and I were strolling through the mall there once and Conway Twitty walked right out in front of us while shopping with a female companion.
