let's get small

Two Tennessee Titans live next door to me, which is quite interesting to a lot of people. It has really gotten my attention because (a) they have a really loud stereo + pretty bad taste in music (b) they play it at a schedule counter to my own (c) one is a massive human being - like 6'6, 300#. He is a big boy.

I'm dying to tell people this: on a recent Sunday, after a dispiriting loss, they blasted the theme from "Rocky." I was dying to call everyone I knew to publicize this. It just struck me as hilarious.

Anyway, they also have a foosball table and they play very animated games at night. I think the louder one is winning. It's not so bad, it's a good conversation piece, and it's fun to have my dad here to verify the wackiness.

These guys live in the penthouse and are pulling down massive amounts of money. They also are about 23 years old! Oh to be young, rich and potentially famous. Still, it must be said, they need some tuneage consultation.

the terrible, horrible, not very good day

I'll spare you the details except to say this makes two in a row. We have bad days to remind us what good days are. That's what I kept telling myself. Lesson learned: bring back the good days. At one point I went outside to contemplate the mysteries of West End Avenue. All I felt like doing (since crying was not an option) was to go to the movies. I used to have a job that actually paid me to go to the movies (and paid for the movies) and for a minute I thought, "Why did I leave that job again?"

Probably because there's more to life than going to the movies, and I was sick and tired of writing about them. Probably because I wanted to try new things, and without changing jobs I never would have seen France or Spain. Probably because half my co-workers at the paper ended up walking the 12 Steps. And probably because even with these rare sucky days, I knew it would be the right decision.

So I went to the movies tonight, and enjoyed it immensely. And tomorrow I'll go into work and hope against turning a hat trick. At least my week's been better than Warren Zevon's.

i am not a stalker

Will Kimbrough is on Letterman right now, playing lead guitar for Rodney Crowell. It's so great and strange to watch TV and recognize sidemen. I think Will wins the "most mentions" on this log outside my family and friends. Buy "Home Away." Seriously.

faster than a speeding dewey decimal ...

.. able to leap tall card catalogs in a single bound. A librarian action figure hits stores next month. I must have one. Listen to this cool story (from NPR, natch) and note the existence of "librarian rage."
