I just found out that Tom Petty's longtime bassist Howie Epstein died. The band fired him a short while ago due to unspecified personal problems (read as: drugs). The last time I saw him in concert he looked absolutely fiendish. He didn't look like the clean-cut Midwestern guy seen here. It's very sad. Strangely enough, I have been listening to old Tom Petty albums all week, esp. 1981's "Hard Promises."
